We're actually 2-3% below the national average on most everything except for the housing and transport. In short if you're moving from outside the city limits you'll need the new job to offer you 20% or more than your current income to maintain your lifestyle. Please remember there's no state income tax and property taxes pay for the majority of revenue for the state and its municipalities. By the time you balance coming from states with income taxes gets the higher cost gets cut in half. So really the increase to take home income proves a 5-10% difference. Single person earning $52k+/yr provides a contemporary and comfortable lifestyle. Realistically.
